Mao Xin Tea House: A Visual Identity Reflecting Tea Culture and Zen

Unveiling the Beauty of Oriental Tea through Design

The Mao Xin Tea House, designed by ChingYu Liu, captures the essence of tea culture and Zen philosophy, creating a visual identity that resonates with the rich history and traditions of the Tseng family's tea farming legacy in Taiwan.

For four generations, the Tseng family has cultivated tea, passing down their deep emotional connection to the local culture. The Mao Xin Tea House stands as a testament to their aspiration of preserving and sharing this heritage with future generations.

The logo design of the Mao Xin Tea House is a celebration of the beauty and uniqueness of oriental tea. Inspired by the specialty of the tea, which consists of two leaves to every one root, the logo incorporates elements of Zen culture. The circular layout of the tea plots, reminiscent of a Japanese rock garden, further enhances the connection to Zen philosophy.

Utilizing graphic design, brand identity, packaging design, brand research and strategy, and visual communication design, ChingYu Liu brings the vision of the Mao Xin Tea House to life. The design specifications include a sealing sticker measuring 10mm in height and 145mm in width, a front sticker measuring 75mm in height and 175mm in width, and a bottle with dimensions of 75mm in width, 35mm in depth, and 165mm in height.

The logo design can be applied to various forms of packaging, as well as integrated into the interior and exterior of the tea house. From cups and business cards to the store sign and menus, the logo creates a sense of brand recognition and reinforces the connection between the tea house and its customers.

The Mao Xin Tea House project commenced in March 2018 and was completed in September 2018 in Taiwan. ChingYu Liu drew inspiration from the tea house's Japanese colonial-era construction in 1928, incorporating Japanese design elements to highlight the natural beauty of the surrounding area and architecture.

One of the design challenges faced by ChingYu Liu was to attract the attention of a younger generation of tea enthusiasts while staying true to the tea house's traditional roots. By infusing the design with elements of Zen philosophy and oriental tea culture, the Mao Xin Tea House appeals to both the old and the new.

The Mao Xin Tea House, with its visually captivating design, has garnered recognition in the design community. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022 in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that are well-crafted, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements.
